Do all small businesses need the same insurance?

No. The policy mix depends on operations, employees, property, vehicles, professional services, data, contracts, state rules, and the loss the business could not comfortably pay itself.

Is a certificate of insurance the same as coverage?

No. A COI is evidence of insurance. It does not create coverage that the policy and endorsements do not provide.

Is a BOP the same as general liability?

No. A BOP is a package that commonly combines liability with commercial property and may include business-income coverage, subject to insurer eligibility and forms.

What should I compare besides premium?

Compare the business description, policy lines, limits, deductibles/retentions, forms, exclusions, endorsements, carrier entity, certificates, claims workflow, audits, and renewal terms.

How do I know whether workers compensation is required?

Requirements are state-specific. Verify current rules with the state workers compensation agency or other official state source before hiring or changing owner/employee status.

Can this site tell me whether a claim is covered?

No. Coverage depends on the actual policy, endorsements, facts, timing, and applicable law. Use the claim pages to organize records and questions.
