Describe the business in plain English
Write what the business does, where it works, who it serves, what it does not do, and which activities are occasional or subcontracted.
Collect the exposure data
Insurers may ask for different fields by policy line, but a useful starting file includes:
- Revenue and payroll
- Owners and employee count
- Locations and property values
- Vehicles and drivers
- Tools/equipment/inventory
- Subcontractor cost and certificates
- Prior claims/loss runs
- Leases and client insurance requirements
Compare the finished quotes
Use the same business facts, policy lines, limits, deductible/retention, and contract requirements across providers. Then compare forms, endorsements, carrier identity, price, service, audit, and claim workflow.

Use official and primary sources to verify current rules, insurer licensing, policy wording, and state requirements. The declarations page, forms, endorsements, and signed contracts control the actual insurance relationship.
